John Beran- CEO
John received a bachelor’s of administration degree from
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. John began his professional career with
KPMG where he worked for 8 years with clients ranging from manufacturing to
health care. John left KPMG to join Aurora Health Care during a five year rapid
growth period where Aurora
expanded from a $400 million dollar system to over $ 2 billion in annual
revenues. John served as the chief financial officer of several entities
simultaneously as well as heading up two new divisions. John was than recruited to SpectraCare in Louisville, Kentucky
where he rose to the level of Vice President of Operations with over 1,200
employees. SpectraCare was intending on
going public but suffered many setbacks inflicted by the balanced budget act of
1997. John played a strategic role in
the company including authoring and implementing a restructuring plan. John
left the company in 1999 to begin a consulting practice.
Starting with a consulting practice, John worked in several
industries including the film industry (feature films), venture capital
management and bio-technology business development serving as an advisor to
senior management. Eventually he decided to actively seek technologies
that he thought had potential and begin start-ups. Scout Diagnostics was
founded by John along with the patent holders, Dr. Mark Lovell and Dr. Bert
Lynn.
Dr. Mark Lovell
Dr. Lovell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at
the University of
Kentucky and received his
PhD in Chemistry in 1992. Dr. Lovell has published over 65 peer reviewed
articles in the area of neurological disorders. Dr. Lovell developed the
initial ELISA test kit that demonstrated the feasibility of the aberrant
protein complex to be used as a diagnostic tool. Dr. Lovell continues to
work on demonstrating the utility and effectiveness of Scout's diagnostic
tool. As a respected researcher in the field, Dr. Lovell has been able to
gain access to the materials that are required to demonstrate the effectiveness
of Scout's first diagnostic for Alzheimer's disease. Having worked in the area of neurological
disorders since 1992, Dr. Lovell understands the complexities of making a positive
diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease, and also understands the importance of such
a diagnosis.
Dr. Bert Lynn
Dr.
Lynn is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky
and serves as the Director of the University
of Kentucky Mass Spectrometry Facility. Dr. Lynn has been working in
the area of neurological disorders since 2001.
His experience with Mass Spectrometry has provided Scout with tools needed to discover and characterize new diagnostic targets. Dr. Lynn brings an entrepreneurial optimism
to the scientific team. His inspiration
to seek aberrant peptides as diagnostic tools for Alzheimer’s disease began the
scientific team on the path to Scout Diagnostics. With Dr. Lynn’s enthusiasm and Dr. Lovell’s
healthy skepticism, the two researchers have formed a highly synergistic
team.
