Scout Diagnostics
Scout Diagnostics is developing a new diagnostic tool that will allow the very early determination of Alzheimer Disease in patients.  This exciting new tool will allow researchers to test the efficacy of new treatments and will eventually allow for an early diagnosis, and thus begin treatment in the early stages of the disease, where treatments can be the most beneficial. Please take some time to browse this site and learn more about this exciting new technology and how it could be applied to your research efforts, or in your clinical setting.  Early diagnosis with high sensitivity and specificity is critical to the long term management of this devastating disease.

The Discovery
Scout Diagnostics has discovered a unique bio-marker that indicates the early onset of Alzheimer's disease.  The discoverers of this unique bio-marker have developed a diagnostic kit that can detect this bio-marker, allowing for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's.  Early detection of Alzheimer's has been impossible up to this point, and the early the disease is detected the better the chances of treating the debilitating disease.

The Researchers
Dr. Bert Lynn and Dr. Mark Lovell are the discoverers of the protein complex that is the basis of the Scout Diagnostic technology.  Dr. Lovell has published over 65 peer reviewed articles in the area of neurological disorders.  He developed the initial ELISA test kit that demonstrated the feasibility of the aberrant protein complex to be used as a diagnostic tool.  Dr. Lynn's experience with Mass Spectrometry has provided Scout with tools needed to discover and characterize new diagnostic targets.

The Disease
Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Although the greatest known risk factor is increasing age, and the majority of people with Alzheimer's are 65 and older. But Alzheimer's is not just a disease of old age. Up to 5 percent of people with the disease have early-onset Alzheimer's.
